About Organic Garden Channel
Rooted in soil, raised by community.
We started as a backyard YouTube experiment and grew into a field school for organic growers. Our mission is simple: help anyone β balcony to homestead β grow nutrient-dense food without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides.
Every season we run real trials: 42 tomato varieties, 9 compost methods, 6 mulches side-by-side. We publish what thrives, compost what fails, and share seeds with our members. No sponsored chemicals, ever β only biology, biodiversity and patience.
- πΏ 12 years chemical-free: our demo farm has not seen synthetic inputs since day one.
- π§ͺ Lab-tested soil: we track organic matter, microbes and Brix to prove flavor follows health.
- π©βπΎ Beginner-first: plain language, step photos, printable calendars and mistake diaries.

Your first 4Γ8 bed in a weekend.
No rototiller. No chemicals. Just cardboard, compost and mulch.
Mow, lay overlapping cardboard, soak thoroughly, edge with logs or boards.
Add 10cm compost + 5cm straw. Sprinkle rock dust and water with compost tea.
Tomato + basil + marigold, peppers + onions, carrots + radish. Mulch bare spots.
π§ Water deep, not often
2-3 deep soakings beat daily sprinkles. Mulch keeps roots cool.
π Invite predators
Alyssum, dill and yarrow host hoverflies that eat aphids.
πΎ Never bare soil
Cover with living plants or straw β soil is a stomach, not a shelf.
π« Save seeds
Let one best plant go to seed. Label, dry, share with neighbors.
Community harvests
48,000 backyards, one table.
Maya from Portland harvested 68kg tomatoes from two beds. Jonas in Berlin grows salads on a 3mΒ² balcony all winter. Your plot is next.

Good questions
Organic answers, no jargon.
Do I need a large yard to start an organic garden?οΌ
No. A sunny balcony, 2 raised beds or even 5 containers can produce salads, herbs and tomatoes all season. Start with 4 square meters, good compost and full sun.
What is the fastest way to improve soil organically?οΌ
Add 5-7 cm of mature compost, mulch with straw or leaves, stop digging deeply, and sow cover crops like clover or rye. In 1 season biology rebounds.
How do I control pests without chemicals?οΌ
Use companion planting (marigold + tomato, basil + pepper), hand-pick, neem oil, insect netting, and invite predators: ladybugs, lacewings, birds and hedgehogs.
When should I start seeds indoors?οΌ
Tomatoes and peppers 6-8 weeks before last frost, brassicas 4-6 weeks, cucumbers and squash 3 weeks. Use our seasonal calendar below for exact timing.
Is organic really more nutritious? οΌ
Higher organic matter often means higher Brix and antioxidants. Our taste panels consistently prefer compost-grown veggies β and lab tests show denser minerals when biology is active.
